Dogs Needing Homes
Token
Breed:
Chihuahua
Age: AdultSex: Male
Size: Small Description: Token was dumped at a shelter and while he didn't pass the arbitrary temperament test, the staff just knew that he would be a great dog in a non-shelter environment. They kept him safe for months while they waited for a spot to open up at Small Dog Rescue and Token is doing just great in his foster home - exactly as they predicted. Token will be a dog who may need to wear a muzzle when getting exams at the vet, but aside from scary vet clinics and shelters, he is a very nice boy.
As I write this bio on him, he is sitting on my lap as happy as can be.
Token is a very compassionate dog, once he gets to know you. Upon first meeting you, he might bark and be curious, but let him sniff you, and then he cannot get enough of you. He prefers not to be kenneled, may growl if you try to put him in. However, I have not kenneled him since I have had him, and he is doing great.
When he does have to be left home alone, Token is placed in the kitchen with a two foot baby gate up (so he doesnt get into the living room) and stays contently in the kitchen with his toys. He does not attempt to jump over the gate or does not snoop in the trash.
Token has free roam of the house when we are home, and he stays off the furniture unless he is invited to come up. He is fully potty trained and has never gone to the bathroom inside. At night, he sleeps in his furry doggie bed on the floor in the bedroom, for he likes to be close to people at night and is very well behaved. At night, he stays in the bedroom and does not snoop around the house but stays nicely in his bed, for he needs a good nights sleep too.
He loves being fed, once in the morning and once in the evening, and will even eat out of your hand. Token loves to go for a walk every morning and doesnt even bark at rabbits or squirrels. He has no problem putting on a harness for his walks, in fact; he then knows its going to be time for a walk.
Token may become growly and aggressive if he feels threatened and may nip. He is very protective of his person, as chihuahuas tend to be. It states in his file that he should not be introduced to new people when someone is holding him or in a car. But he does like to meet new people, just one person at a time and in a calm environment. Although, since he has been in my home, he is doing very well and has not nipped at all. He gets along great with children, but again he needs to meet the children one at a time and in calm manner and environment. Token also gets along great with other dogs; he loves a dog that wants to play that is about the same size as him.
He loves to go for car rides and cant wait to jump in with you. Token is well behaved in the car and loves to just lie in the front seat and look at the driver. He loves to be talked too. He loves sitting in your lap and playing with his many toys. He also likes to play catch with a tennis ball, but you will need two balls to be successful, for he wont give the one up, so you toss the first ball, he will bring the ball back, but not let go until he sees that you have a second ball, then will drop the first ball as soon as you toss the second; its a true joy to see him play like this. Token also likes to nap and cuddle with his person, this is the best quality about him.
Token is neutered, up to date on shots, has had a fecal, is heart worm negative, has been flea and tick treated, and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $325.
