Dogs Needing Homes
Nala
Breed:
Boston Terrier
Age: YoungSex: Female
Size: Small Description: Nala is a 13.5 lbs Boston Terrier. She is nearly 2 years old (DOB 6/5/08). Nala was surrendered by her family because they had a new baby in the house and Nala had more energy than they could handle, also due to opposite work schedules Nala was crated for a majority of her day. Nala is house trained and crate trained.
Nala came from a breeder and was born with a spinal deformity. She has been fully vet checked and our vet has determined that although Nala's quality of life is not affected right now by her deformity, down the road she will likely have some issues caused by her malformation. Nala will need very regular vet checkups and must have a family who is willing to have a close relationship with a reputable vet who will monitor her status and keep her as healthy and happy as possible.
Nala was not very well socialized as a puppy and thus has no idea of how to act appropriately when meeting unfamiliar dogs. She is being fostered with 2 other young and spunky dogs that she loves to roll around and wrestle with, but she will need guidance on developing her skills in new situations. She seems very trainable and is learning more and more each day. Now that we've had Nala in our home for several weeks, it seems that every time we take her out in public she's getting better with the other dogs. She's still going to need someone that will help her learn, but she's well on her way to being a more stable dog already! Nala has also done great with our foster kittens. She's very gentle with them and tries to groom and wrestle with them.
UPDATE (7/22/10) Nala is growing by leaps and bounds in the socialization area. Nala has been in several situations in the last few weeks with other reactive and unsocialized dogs and she has handled it beautifully. She can play off leash with new dogs now and has been to the dog park several times without ANY inappropriate behavior!! Along with the dog park, Nala is able to be in the house unconfined without accidents or getting into trouble. Nala has also gone tubing down the river, camping, and modeled for several professional photographers in the last couple weeks. We are so proud of the progress that she's made!
Nala is a fun dog who has tons of energy and a unique and fun personality. She is a total clown and snorts and snores like a little piglet. She will be great for a family who is willing to accept her for who she is and help her increase the positive attributes that she already has. Due to Nala's excitability she would be best in a home with kids over the age of 12 or in a family with very dog savvy kids who won't let her get away with being naughty. She definitely would not be best with small kids that she can knock over. She is in no way aggressive toward any humans and is fine meeting kids while supervised to make sure that she's not jumping up or licking too much.
She is spayed, up to date on shots, heart worm tested, has had a fecal, on flea and tick preventative, and micro-chipped. Her adoption fee is $350.
