Dogs Needing Homes
Meet Brandy! She's a BEAUTIFUL chocolate/white Party Pom that's just a 1 year old that was rescued from a puppy mill. She came to us with a broken paw and has has surgery, that's why she has the pink spint on in the photos. Her coat is in rough shape from stress, probably poor nutrition in the mill, and because she loosing her summer coat to make way for winter. Good food, relaxation , and daily brushing will bring it back full & long.
Brandy is very shy & timid around people but really comes out of her shell when there is another, confident, dog in the home - so she MUST have a home with another do. She's not aggressive in any way. She does not know that a human touch can be kind. I'm working with her to trust me by winning her over with lots of treats. Right now, she doesn't even like to get pet or held. She is skin & bone so I'm trying to put some weight on her by feeding her good quality food & letting her eat whenever she wants.
Brandy loves other dogs & gets along with my two male Poms. Despite the fact that her paw is broken she still hobbles after the other Poms, she gives them lots of kisses, and even tries to play with them. I found that Brandy LOVES squeaky toys. She is starting to mimic her Pom brothers playing fetch. She hobbles after the ball & picks it up with her mouth, then because she doesn't know what to do, she drops it (it's cute!). With all that she's been through it seems as though she is in good spirits.
Brandy is a bit weary of cats, she's not scared of them just unaware and she sometimes barks & growls at them. She definitely does not want the cats by her food or while she's trying to sleep (who could blame her).
Her new family must have a lot of patience & willing to continue working with her on her social skills, house breaking, and basic training. Brandy is definitely not a "first time" dog for anyone, experience with animals is a must. Previous experience with puppy mill animals or special needs is a plus!
Pomeranian's do shed & need to be brushed, at the very least weekly, with a regular brush & slicker, more often when the seasons change. I would encourage research on the Pomeranian breed if you are interested in adopting her.
She is spayed, up to date on shots, de-wormed, frontlined, heart worm negative, on hw preventative, and micro-chipped. Her adoption fee is $350.
You must fill out an adoption application before you are allowed to meet the animal. Please complete the adoption application located on our website.
Small Dog Rescue of MN does not negotiate the adoption fee on our dogs and we must charge sales tax on all adoption fees in order to comply with Minnesota state law. Please note that SDR is philisophically opposed to the idea of buying and selling animals, and we support any future legislation that would remove sales tax from adoption fees. Until then, however, we must charge it.
We are offering a microchip placement for your resident dog for small donation to our rescue
Please note that we do not have a shelter, and all dogs are in foster homes. Since we strive to provide the best possible care for our animals, sometimes we cannot answer emails promptly. Please allow 48 hours for us to respond to you.
