Dogs Needing Homes
Beanz
Breed:
Rat Terrier
Age: AdultSex: Male
Size: Small Description: Update (5/2010): Beanz is now in his new foster home, after going thru training/therapy. He is so much more happy and balanced. Gone is the aggression towards strangers, replaced with cautiousness and a few barks (he tends to bark at the men, but it is easily remedied). Beanz looks to me for guidance and leadership so when we meet new people it is no longer a scary time, but a calm one. He quickly warms up to people now and loves to give them kisses. We met a couple of toddlers at the pet store the other day, and once the initial cautiousness was gone they were petting him and he was giving kisses. Also gone is the feeling that he needs to protect his kennel or food with aggression. He will sleep in his kennel when asked and actually he shares a kennel with my resident dog sometimes. From time to time he will eat quite fast, as if I am going to take it away, but there is no aggression there. This fast eating is decreasing each week I have him. The training was not only for Beanz, but for me as well, showing me how to read Beanz's body language. By doing this, I can recognize if a correction will be needed before things can possibly escalate. Beanz is quite obedient, and like I mentioned before, looks to me for leadership and guidance. The ideal home for Beanz would be adult only, where he is the only dog. He gets along fine with my resident dog Harper, but there are times when Harper has more energy than Beanz (hard to believe) and Beanz does not know what to do with that. His new guardian will need to be a leader and be there to give Beanz the guidance and confidence that he needs to be a part of the family. This is not a difficult thing to do, and is very easily learned. Desire to learn, lots of love to give and consistency for Beanz is the only prerequisites needed to be his new guardian. Beanie LOVES attention. He loves to cuddle, play fetch, to be petted and is so incredibly sweet?..and now is happy and balanced as well. The complete package!
Beanz is a wonderful little dog; full of energy and intelligent, perfectly potty trained, and sleeps in his kennel at night. He loves to sit in your lap or snuggle up next to you, he follows me all over the house. Beanz gets along very well with our two male pug dogs. We all walk together in the park everyday. While aggressive and fearful around strangers (men especially), protective of his kennel and food, he is making progress on all fronts. We hope his new family will spend some time with the trainer Beanz has been working with. We think he could do well with other dogs, cats, not so much.
Beanz is a 5 year old rat terrier who is looking for an adult only home. His former parents had a human baby and he was not happy about it at all. He wants someone who won't bring one of those rude surprises home again. He'd also rather be an only dog if possible. He is neutered, house trained, up to date on shots, de-wormed, frontlined, on heart worm prevention, and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $325.
