Dogs Needing Homes
Description: I am a male ShihTzu, 5 years old, who has lived in a puppy mill. My hair was so matted and never groomed. Then one day myself and a lot of other dogs were removed from our kennels and I kept hearing about a rescue taking us and we were going to have good lives. At that time I could care less...I was sick and all I wanted to do was curl up and die, literally. They groomed my hair and off to the rescue I went. It was quite a long drive but again, I just wanted to curl in the kennel and die, I was so sick. These wonderful people called my foster parents took me in their HOUSE, can you believe that? It was great, and I sniffed around and went outside with them, but then I just wanted to come in and curl up and yes....die. My foster parents knew something was wrong and called the people that run the rescue and another lady came and got me and took me to the vet. I had a big sore on my side that looked like I had been burned or something and I had an allergic reaction to some kind of chemical put on me and my ears were infected and swollen shut as where my eyes. They kept touching my eyes and that hurt so much that they gave me something so I could go to sleep and look at my eyes. I had ulcers on my eyes...no wonder it hurt so bad. My new foster mom took such good care of me. When I wanted to die, I just kept curled up I didn't want to move but she wouldn't have that. She would come over and uncurl my body and take me outside. Little by little I started feeling better and boy do I feel good now and am I enjoying my new life!!! I love to play with toys and other dogs and I am learning about the world outside of small cage. I don't like a collar, but a harness is okay. I like to come up close to my people, but still am a little skittish (you know - not sure what they might do to me). I like the other dogs, and I have never, ever seen something they call a "cat". I wear a belly band and am learning that I can do my thing outside. Right now I have a very short haircut. It is good for hot summer days and feels better than my matted hair that I used to have.
Please think about me when you are looking for your very own dog. I'm neutered, up to date on shots, de-wormed, frontlined, heart worm negative, on heart worm prevention, just got my teeth cleaned, and I'm micro-chipped. My adoption fee is $350.
You must fill out an adoption application before you are allowed to meet the animal. Please complete the adoption application located on our website.
Small Dog Rescue of MN does not negotiate the adoption fee on our dogs and we must charge sales tax on all adoption fees in order to comply with Minnesota state law. Please note that SDR is philisophically opposed to the idea of buying and selling animals, and we support any future legislation that would remove sales tax from adoption fees. Until then, however, we must charge it.
We are offering a microchip placement for your resident dog for small donation to our rescue
