Alvin the Cockapoo, Healing From the Past
5/24/2010 5:47 PM
Alvin had a miserable start to life being born and studded on a puppy mill until the owner of the mill dumped him at a rural high-kill shelter. This poor guy hasn't known a kind word or gentle touch until he arrived in rescue, and he is extremely cautious about his surroundings. He's showing some promise, though, in that he has taken an interest in watching the world go by through the window of his foster home - so we are all taking that as a positive sign that he's getting ready to branch out more soon.
Alvin gets a lot of hits on petfinder because of his breed. Cockapoos are popular family dogs, but Alvin needs a quiet, dog-experienced home with someone who is more interested in helping him to heal than in finding a playmate for the children. Despite the fact that he shows up as the most popular SDR dog on Petfinder, we have yet to have one single inquiry or application for him isnce he's come to SDR.
His foster mom says he looks a little like Falcor from the Neverending Story. I think he's cuter that that flying dog/monster, myself - but I sure hope he feels confident enough to go on great adventures like his doppleganger soon.
