Heckle: A Ready-Made Family Dog
5/12/2010 6:33 PM

Anyone who claims that rescue dogs all have lots of problems and issues obviously hasn't met Heckle. This little guy is the very definition of "resiliant".  He came to us from a rescue in Tennessee that was shutting down.  He has been such a joy for the two foster moms who have had the great pleasure of taking care of him.  He's great with other dogs, he's house trained, he's good with kids, he's friendly to everyone... this dog is a treasure.

So what's he still doing here?  We don't know either!

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he's a black dog and statistically, black dogs are the last to be adopted and the first to be euthanized in traditional shelters.  They're photos don't stand out as well, there is some kind of bias against them, people percieve them as "boring" or "plain" or "dangerous".

But Heckle is a stand up dog, and he deserves a loving, permanent home quickly.  It tears us up to have a dog who should be "highly adoptable" lingering in foster care.  Check him out!
