Senior Dog Spotlight: Abby the Poodle
11/11/2009 5:17 PM
Abby the poodle is a perfect ambassador for Adopt-A-Senior Dog Month

Abby is our new featured dog and we hope to find her a home quickly.  She is a delightful little girl.  Abby is a lively 13 year old toy poodle who had been living with the same family since she was a puppy.  However, she adjusted quickly to her foster home, accepting and giving affection.  She gets along well with the dogs living in her foster home but far prefers people.  More than interacting with the other dogs, she simply cohabitates with them.  Abby weighs just 9 lbs and is tiny.  She has a little difficultly with stairs but with some encouragement can hop up and down them.  She has clearly been fed from the table and begs incessantly for food during dinnertime.  However, ignoring her seems to have cut this behavior in half within a couple of days.  Abby eats dry food in the morning and evening; she enjoys going on walks and playing out in the yard.  However, Abby’s most defining characteristic is that she does not like to be alone.  She is much happier when in the company of people.  She’s fine downstairs if we’re upstairs and she seems comfortable being alone for a few hours here or there.  But she’s definitely a dog for a family with someone at home or for a person who works from home or is retired.  She’s a little nervous and fearful and seems to feel more secure with a person around to protect her.  She loves riding in the car, too!
