2nd Annual No-Kill Walk for the Animals is Almost Here!
4/28/2012 5:28 PM

Please join Small Dog Rescue of MN (SDR) along with many other local no-kill rescues next Saturday, May 5th for the 2nd Annual No-Kill Walk for the Animals (NKWFTA).

Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Upper Shelter at Spooner Park -- 351 Eli Road in Little Canada, MN 55117. The walk will kick off at 10am. The purpose of this event is to highlight the extraordinary efforts made by hundreds of no-kill rescues and shelters to reduce unnecessary euthanasia of adoptable animals. Be sure to raise those pledges for all the small dogs that SDR is helping to save!

"This year, roughly four million dogs and cats—and countless other animals—will be put to death in our Nation’s Animal Shelters. Their only ‘crime’ is that they have no human address. Other adoptable animals may be sick or injured, and they could be saved with very little effort<.but unfortunately, they too will be killed. But there is hope. If every animal shelter in the United States embraced the No Kill philosophy and the programs and services that make it possible, we would save nearly four million dogs and cats who are scheduled to die in shelters this year, and the year after that. It is not an impossible dream.” -- No Kill Advocacy Center

The walk begins at Spooner Park’s Upper Shelter where many Minnesota no-kill rescues, shelters, and related vendors will have information about their groups and some of their adoptable animals available to meet. Thousands of Minnesota animals are saved each year because dedicated volunteers who run no-kill rescues and shelters take in dogs and cats who would otherwise be euthanized. They provide veterinary care, spay and neuter all animals prior to adoption, socialize animals in dedicated foster homes, and screen adopters to ensure that each animal finds a safe and loving “furever” home. The public and all no-kill rescues and shelters are invited to participate in this event.

More information on this annual walk can be found on Facebook. We hope to see you there!

A Message from the Birkholz Family
4/25/2012 12:07 PM

I wanted to share with everyone what a great dog Manny is. He spent last weekend with us and was a very well behaved dog. He played with the kids, met all the neighbor kids, watched a game of kickball like it was his favorite sport and was calm and quiet the whole time. No barking, no jumping, just waiting for the kids to come and pet him. He was polite and clear when he wanted to go outside and never made a noise above a whimper. He stayed home alone for 5 hours with no incident, and greeted us like he always knew us. He joined us at a soccer game and did well with all the kids and other small dogs that follow soccer families around. Through it all, he just wanted someone to sit with him and pet him. We can't keep Manny because we discovered a dog allergy in our youngest, but someone will get to adopt a very friendly, happy dog.
